The author Sinclair Lewis is often times quoted as saying that “when fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross.” There seems to be a relentless campaign by the current administration to completely flood all levels of government with extreme christian ideologues, unqualified but loyal to the vision of christian nationalism, aka christofascism. As has been documented in many cases, these people have no loyalty to anything other than their mythical deity or any respect for the Constitution. At the same time, there also seems to be a concerted effort to disengage from the rest of the civilized world. This would seem to not bode well for our great country, or for humanity as a whole, for that matter. How can we protect our country from the danger(s) posed by these people and their actions? How can we ensure that the US continues to survive as the Founders intended – as a secular nation staying true to the values of the enlightenment? What can we do to defend against this travesty?
