Topic: The Role of Media in a Democracy

Our nation’s founders enshrined freedom of the press as a basic right, and it seems they were wise to do so. But with the rise of social media, online propaganda, and propaganda-disguised-as-news, we suddenly face an information ecosystem that is destabilizing democracies around the globe. Is it time to re-think this core tenet of our collective worldview? Should freethinkers re-think our longstanding allegiance to this principle? What might we replace it with?
