Announcing PFC's Annual Shrimp Boil for 2021!

Our 15th annual Shrimp Boil picnic will be Sunday, August 14st.  This year we’re hosting a family-style picnic, including a short hike, leisure activities, and games. More details to come!

Where: Cedar Creek Park in Rostraver, Westmoreland County, Pavilion #14.

When: 12:00 pm to dusk, with food served around 4:30 pm.

On the Menu:  Boiled shrimp, corn on the cob, sausage, potatoes, and bread pudding.

Cost:  Free for active members and their guests! $15 for non-members.  (Registration required for all attendees.)

If you have not joined PFC as a member and would like to attend with your guests for free, please become a member for only $20 before registering for the event.

If you have been a member of PFC, but have not renewed your membership within the last 12 months, please click on your name at the top of this page and then "Your Profile" to renew.

Cedar Creek closes at dusk, so with sunset at 8:14 pm, we must clean up and leave by 8:30 pm. If you are planning to come early or if you are on a special diet, please bring your own snacks.

(provisional) This year's river portion of the annual Shrimp Boil and Kayak/Canoe trip will be BYOB (Bring Your Own Boat)!!

Due to the unfortunate decision of the outfitter we normally use for the event, and the lack of any other outfitters that service that area of the Yough', anyone that would like to participate in the river float portion of this year's Shrimp Boil will have to bring their own.

Transport upriver for the canoe/kayaks (only - nothing larger) will be available at no cost, with limited space. It will be reserved first-ask, so watercraft size will determine how many can fit, so claim your spot early! Please send an email to info@pghfreethought.org to express your interest!

In the past, the outfitter would put-in at Smithton for a 3 mile float to Cedar Creek Park before lunch, then an additional 4 miles after back to their location. This year, we're looking at put-in in Whitsett for a single 7-mile stretch of relaxation.
