Announcing PFC's Annual Shrimp Boil for 2022!

Our 15th annual Shrimp Boil picnic will be Sunday, August 14th.  This year we’re hosting a family-style picnic, including a short hike, leisure activities such as Horseshoes, and games such as Volleyball. So come on out and join your fellow Freethinkers and enjoy a day of leisure and relaxation. More details to come!

Where: Cedar Creek Park in Rostraver, Westmoreland County, Pavilion #14. (Directions below)

When: Sunday, August 14th, 12:00 pm to dusk, with food served around 4:30 pm.  Cedar Creek Park closes at dusk, so with sunset at 8:14 pm, we must clean up and leave by 8:30 pm.

On the Menu:  Boiled E-Z peel shrimp, corn on the cob, andouille sausage, redskinned potatoes, and for dessert, bread pudding with rum sauce.

Cost:  $10 per adult 12 & older; $5 for ages 6 thru 11; children 5 and under are free. (Registration required for all attendees.)

Unfortunately, there is no longer an Outfitter serving this section of the Youghiogheny River, so combining the picnic with a canoe/kayak excursion is no longer possible. That is why we are offering an expanded version of the picnic.

If you are interested in bicycling, the Great Allegheny Passage runs right through Cedar Creek Park along the river.

See the trail guide for more information about the Yough River trail.

Directions to the Pavilion: Pavilion #14 is one of only two pavilions not accessed from the regular park entrance. As you come up the road from PA Rte 51, you go through a new housing development, past District Court 10-2-06 and past Rostraver Municipal Bldg, both on the left. At the top of the hill, you will pass a large stucco house, also on your left, with a three vehicle garage, one of which has a very tall garage door. Immediately after passing that house, there is a road to the left with a sign that points to the park entrance straight ahead. Do NOT go to the park entrance! Take that first left turn instead. Go approximately 1⁄2 mile, past a few houses, the last being a white farm house with a small white shed on your right. Immediately after this shed, there is a small driveway/entrance also on the right. This is the entrance to several parking lots, the first two of which are for our pavilion. You will also see a ballfield just past this entrance.
