Topic: Evolutionary Misunderstandings

Moderator: Mimi L

We still hear questions from presumably well-educated people indicating a complete lack of understanding regarding evolution. Questions such as:

  • If humans evolved from monkeys, why are there still monkeys?
  • Why do many insist there was no first human couple? It takes two humans (male & female) to make a human baby. Why do many deny that this is necessary?
  • Why are humans so much more highly evolved than everything else?
  • Some major universities no longer see Darwinism as a true working model. Is it true? How far does science accept Darwinism?

Although there are many legitimate unanswered questions as well as a few controversies among evolutionary scientists, the basic fact that all present-day species evolved from earlier forms through natural selection and other natural processes is not in dispute by any legitimate scientist.

  • What do scientists know about evolution and what don't they know?
  • How can we reply to these questions when we might not know all the details ourselves?
  • Why can't schools teach even the basics about the subject?
