Magic of Reality: How We Know What’s Really True

Wed, Aug 28, 2024, 7:00 – 8:30 pm

Host: Karen C.

The Magic of Reality: How We Know What's Really True by British biologist Richard Dawkins is aimed primarily at young adults. Most chapters begin with brief re-tellings of creation myths that emerged as attempts to explain the origin of particular observed phenomena. Dawkins selects these myths from throughout the world, including Babylonian, Judeo-Christian, Aztec, Maori, Ancient Egyptian, Australian Aboriginal, Nordic, Hellenic, Chinese, Japanese, and other traditions.

With clever thought experiments and facts, The Magic of Reality explains a stunningly wide range of natural phenomena and addresses topics that range from evolutionary biology to physical phenomena such as atomic theory, optics, planetary motion, gravitation, stellar evolution, spectroscopy, and plate tectonics, as well as speculation on exobiology.

Richard Dawkins, the world’s most famous evolutionary biologist and one of science education’s most passionate advocates, has spent his career elucidating the wonders of science for adult readers. In his book, Dawkins uses his unrivaled explanatory powers to share the magic of science with readers of all ages.
