Long-time PFC member Alan Johnson and our Treasurer Steve Kutlenios are teaming up to present a PFC book club session on Alan's book Reason and Human Ethics. It is available in a Kindle ebook edition at https://www.amazon.com/Reason-Human-Ethics-Alan-Johnson-ebook/dp/B0B64L7RFT/ref=tmm_kin_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1657319931&sr=8-1 ($2.99) and as a freely accessible and downloadable PDF at https://www.academia.edu/107899091/Reason_and_Human_Ethics_Philosophia_2022_. Of course, the disadvantage of the PDF is that one cannot toggle back and forth between the endnote references in the text and the actual endnotes at the back of the book, whereas such toggling can easily be done in the Kindle edition. (Note: the Kindle edition can be downloaded on virtually all computer devices (desktops, laptops, mobile phones, etc.) as well as Amazon Kindle readers.

Reason and Human Ethics is an especially suitable choice for the PFC book club because it sets forth a secularrational (not religious) ethics. And, unlike most contemporary (and historical) modern philosophers, it argues for correct reasoning about ends as well as means. Alan will outline the theoretical basis for this approach in chapters 1 and 2 and elaborate the practical applications of it in the remaining chapters.

Alan is also the author of the following books:

Philosophical Trilogy: Free Will and Human Life (2021), Reason and Human Ethics (2022), Reason and Human Government (forthcoming, 2025)

History, Political Science, Law: The First American Founder: Roger Williams and Freedom of Conscience (2015), The Electoral College, 2nd edition (2021)
