I'm excited to introduce PFC Pacers, a new PFC group built around something simple: getting outside together for an easy walk in one of the region's beautiful parks. This is walking and gentle hiking, not a workout — all paces welcome, no one gets left behind, and every spot is chosen for flat or gently-graded paths, benches to rest, restrooms nearby, and free, easy parking right at the trailhead. If you've been looking for a low-key way to connect with fellow freethinkers and enjoy the outdoors, this is for you.
We're starting with a short pilot season of five Saturday-morning walks, twice a month from mid-July through September. Consider it a trial run — your turnout and feedback will shape a fuller May-through-September calendar next year.
We are kicking it off with a visit to Pittsburgh Botanic Garden.
Parking: 799 Pinkerton Run Rd, Oakdale, PA 15071 Open in Google Maps
Free on-site parking lot; restrooms and a café inside. Admission fee to enter the garden.
The walk: Gentle paved and woodland garden paths — just quiet strolling through themed gardens, a lotus pond, and woodland, with benches throughout. About an hour at an easy pace, shade and sun mixed.
Every stop has its own free parking lot, and all are free to enter except the Botanic Garden (small admission). I'll send a parking-and-route map and the exact meeting spot a few days before each walk. Come to one, come to all — bring a friend, bring water and comfortable shoes, and come as you are.
