PFC Monthly discussion groups are open to all - if the topic interests you, and you wish to engage in rational and/or evidence-based dialogue, you'll be welcome! Casual dress. Discussion is moderated but informal - speak up as much or little as you wish.

This month, we are discussing a recent thought experiment involving life and death decisions - sort of moral dilemmas. The thought experiment at the root of this was conducted by MIT and involved different variations of the old trolley dilemma. While it does have implications for self-driving cars, these implications are only indirect. Here is a link to a WaPo article about it: https://www.washingtonpost.com/science/2018/10/24/self-driving-cars-will-have-decide-who-should-live-who-should-die-heres-who-humans-would-kill/

Another article on this is: https://www.pbs.org/newshour/science/in-a-crash-should-self-driving-cars-save-passengers-or-pedestrians-2-million-people-weigh-in

NOTE: Anyone who would like to attend both this discussion and the earlier SaganFest at CMU and needs a ride (or can offer a ride) to Squirrel Hill after the Dennet event, please email billk@pittsburghfreethoughtcommunity.com
