Freethought Freeform presents
Presenter: David Brunco, PhD
Mon, Nov 11, 2024 (Veterans Day)
Market District Café (12 noon - 2 pm)
155 Town Center Drive, Wexford, PA 15090
Please join us at the Café inside the Giant Eagle / Market District Supermarket in Wexford for an interactive presentation of En-ROADS.
Optionally bring your laptop if you also wish to run the En-ROADS Simulator during the session. While En-ROADS is easy to use, getting its full insight will benefit from participation in this session.
Participants are requested to make a food and/or drink purchase from Market District. Conveniently, there are many tasty and affordable options.
En-ROADS is a global climate simulator that allows users to explore the impact that policies—such as electrifying transport, pricing carbon, tree planting, carbon sequestration, increasing building efficiency, and improving agricultural practices—have on factors like energy prices, atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations, temperature rise, air quality, sea level rise, etc.
Developed by Climate Interactive, the MIT Sloan Sustainability Initiative, and Ventana Systems, En-ROADS is a system dynamics model carefully grounded in the best available science, and has been calibrated against a wide range of existing integrated assessment, climate, and energy models. En-ROADS runs on an ordinary laptop in a fraction of a second, is freely available online, and offers an intuitive user-friendly interface.
Users can quickly see the long-term effects of the global climate policies and actions they imagine. The goal? To break through the noise and equip elected officials, business leaders, and others with the knowledge they need to implement equitable and high-leverage climate solutions. You can learn more about the science behind the En-ROADS simulator here.
Freethought Freeform is a variable format event that can be a group discussion, an interview, a tutorial, a movie discussion, a show-and-tell, an in-person event, or maybe something different. It may feature an invited speaker, or maybe it won't. Topic and format will be chosen monthly by the host with inputs from the PFC community. Email your suggestions to info@pghfreethought.org.
