Non-Profit Administrator or Administrative Support Specialist
The Pittsburgh Freethought Community (PFC) is seeking to hire or contract with a half-time (20 hrs./ week) Administrator/ Administrative Support Specialist. The ideal candidate is self-motivated and motivated by our Mission, capable of managing their workload and prioritizing tasks with a minimum of direct supervision, and working effectively with all-volunteer additional “staff.” Based upon background and experience the starting pay for this position is $28-40,000 (expressed as a full-time annualized rate.)

Candidates might have other work affiliation or might combine this 20 hrs./ wk. part time role with another similar part-time role or freelance work or other work responsibility.
The successful candidate would telecommute/ work at home to perform a majority of their duties, but also be generally available to participate in PFC staff meetings and events held at various locations throughout the city. Outside of these scheduled meetings, the employee could utilize a freelance schedule – choosing their work times i.e. 4 hrs. x 5 days/wk., or 7 hrs. x 3 days/wk. etc.
This position, reporting to our Board Chair/ Acting Executive Director, will support the AED as well as the other Board Officers and Committee Chairs who currently manage and do the bulk of the work of the organization. Currently all PFC work is accomplished by these dedicated volunteers.

PFC currently accomplishes its work thru its all-volunteer Committees: Mission-Critical Committees include Program, Social, Public Policy and Activism; Supporting Committees include Membership, Finance, I.T., Marketing and Development.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
MEMBERSHIP: performing the routine administrative work involved with maintenance of a non-profit’s Membership Program, including managing the membership database, printing and mailing new/ renewal member packets, enthusiastically emailing and telephoning members to encourage renewals, thank them and solicit their input. Make suggestions to enhance the PFC membership program.
DEVELOPMENT/ FUNDRAISING: performing the routine administrative work involved with maintenance of a non-profit’s Development/ Fundraising Program, including managing the development database, printing and mailing information to donors including mailing list administration, emailing and telephoning small donors to thank them, making suggestions to enhance the PFC Development program. Perform internet research on potential identified donors, schedule meetings with donors and Board members. Research and compile information on grant-making organizations and perform administrative work related to the submission of PFC grants to those organizations.
Gather and present metrics to facilitate evaluation of Membership, Development and Marketing programs.
FACILITATION of PFC STAFF AND COMMITTEE MEETINGS: Schedule meeting rooms, locate alternative spaces, ensure availability of presentation tech, supplies as needed. Attend as needed.
EVENT STAFF ROLE at PFC PUBLIC MEETINGS AND EVENTS: Working with the Program Committee Chair, schedule meeting rooms, locate new and alternative spaces, ensure availability of presentation tech, supplies as needed. Setup the spaces including seating, PFC marketing banners and tabling supplies. Greet and check-in attendees. Tear-down after event. Solicit, schedule, and train alternate(s) from our group of volunteers when the Administrator cannot personally attend. Provide similar, but likely reduced support for the other Committees’ events.
MAKE SOCIAL MEDIA POSTINGS to PFC accounts independently and based upon content provided by others, to popular platforms – FB, Twitter, Instagram, etc.
PERFORM MISCELLANEOUS on-demand work as Executive Assistant for the Acting Executive Director, the Corporate Secretary and occasionally the other Officers and Committee Chairs as needed.
2 years successful experience in a similar role with a non-profit or for-profit entity or other organization, or equivalent background;
Proficiency in common office software including MS Office Word, Excel. Also, Google tools and apps including Gmail, Google Docs and Sheets, GDrive, Google Groups, OR proficiency in EITHER MS or Google and ability and willingness to quickly utilize self-learning tools such as built-in tutorials, YouTube training resources etc. in order to gain proficiency with the remaining software. In addition, PFC utilizes Wild Apricot non-profit management software and the successful candidate must be willing to utilize online tutorials, webinars etc. to become proficient in the use of this program as well.
Proficiency in collaboration with others on committees and teams;
Strong organizational, problem-solving, time and project management skills; ability to multi-task!
Excellent interpersonal skills including friendly and professional demeanor; willingness to introduce self to, and interact, with new persons
Must have personal transportation or ability to utilize public transportation to attend PFC meetings and events as described above.
Previous non-profit background or corporate administrator experience.
Familiarity and understanding of freethought/ secular movement
Membership, Fundraising or Marketing Experience or training/ education.
